Services
C-RATE offers a comprehensive suite of specialized services exclusively for Battery Energy Storage Systems. Our offerings are designed to cover every technical need that a BESS project might encounter, from initial design through commissioning and beyond. By engaging C-RATE, clients gain access to a multidisciplinary engineering team that can address electrical, mechanical, civil, and regulatory aspects of energy storage with equal proficiency. Below is an outline of our key service areas:
Engineering & System Design
We provide end-to-end BESS system design, covering both high-level architecture and detailed engineering. This includes sizing the system to the optimal power (MW) and energy (MWh) capacities and selecting the ideal battery technology for the project’s use-case – whether it’s lithium-ion (LFP/NMC) for fast response or alternative chemistries (flow batteries, etc.) for longer duration. Using advanced simulation tools, our engineers tailor the design to meet all performance requirements while avoiding over-design or underperformance. No oversized CAPEX is spent on unused capacity, and all power/duration targets are met reliably. Our design scope encompasses everything from single-line electrical diagrams and protection schemes to HVAC, fire suppression, and controls integration, ensuring a safe and efficient system ready for implementation. We also ensure all designs comply with relevant standards and client specifications from the outset.
Grid Interconnection & Compliance Studies
C-RATE specializes in grid integration analysis for BESS. We conduct comprehensive power system studies to ensure your battery system can connect to the grid safely and in full compliance with grid codes. This includes performing load flow analysis, short-circuit calculations, transient stability and dynamic simulations, as well as harmonic distortion studies. We evaluate the BESS’s response to grid disturbances (e.g. verifying fault ride-through capability and frequency regulation behavior) to guarantee secure operation under all scenarios. Our team prepares the necessary grid impact and compliance reports, and we work closely with grid operators to fulfill interconnection requirements. We have deep expertise in grid code compliance – from international standards like ENTSO-E and IEEE 1547 to specific national codes (such as TEİAŞ in Turkey) – and will ensure your project meets or exceeds all technical requirements for grid connection.
Project Development & Owner’s Engineering
We support developers and owners through the entire project development process, acting as a trusted Owner’s Engineer for BESS projects. In early stages, C-RATE provides technical due diligence on project sites and concepts, including site assessments, preliminary layouts, environmental and social impact considerations, and permitting support. We help craft the project execution strategy by defining technical specifications and requirements. During procurement, our team can prepare detailed RFP packages, evaluate vendor bids, qualify suppliers, and support contract negotiations to ensure the chosen technology and EPC partners meet the project’s performance and reliability criteria. Throughout execution, we remain on the owner’s side to oversee and verify the EPC’s engineering deliverables and construction quality. C-RATE provides on-site QA/QC oversight, HSE management, and installation supervision as needed during construction. By having C-RATE as your Owner’s Engineer, you gain an independent expert advocate who safeguards your interests, ensures compliance with design standards, and keeps the project on track technically.
Technical Due Diligence & Feasibility Studies
For investors, lenders, or developers seeking confidence in a BESS project, C-RATE offers rigorous technical due diligence and feasibility analysis services. Our feasibility studies cover both technical and financial aspects: we analyze site conditions, technology options, and grid connectivity, and we build detailed techno-economic models to forecast performance and returns. This includes comprehensive CAPEX/OPEX breakdowns, revenue stacking scenarios (energy arbitrage, capacity payments, ancillary services), and ROI/IRR calculations with sensitivity analyses. These rigorous studies result in a bankable business case that gives stakeholders the data-backed confidence to proceed. For technical due diligence, especially in the context of project financing or acquisitions, we perform a systematic audit of the project’s design and execution plans. C-RATE’s team will review all design documents and engineering studies (single-line diagrams, specifications, simulations, etc.) for completeness and correctness. We evaluate the selected technology and vendors, including batteries, PCS/inverters, BMS/EMS control systems, reviewing supplier credentials and any performance history. Our engineers verify that the design meets applicable standards and will achieve the promised performance (for example, we may re-simulate certain scenarios to check compliance with grid requirements or guarantee figures).
We also conduct site and HSE assessments to identify any environmental, safety, or installation concerns. All findings are synthesized into a comprehensive due diligence report. We deliver a prioritized risk register along with mitigation recommendations, highlighting any gaps or red flags and advising on how to address them. Ultimately, our due diligence service helps de-risk the project for investors by uncovering issues before they materialize and by providing actionable engineering solutions.
Commissioning, Testing & Lifecycle Support
C-RATE remains engaged through commissioning and the operational life of the BESS asset. We develop and execute thorough commissioning plans to validate every aspect of system performance. Our engineers witness and verify Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) for BESS components at the manufacturer facilities, ensuring each component meets design specifications before shipment. On-site, we support Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), verifying proper installation, wiring integrity, and basic functional checks of the integrated system. We meticulously test all safety and control systems inspecting fire suppression systems, grounding/earthing, alarms, and emergency shutdown sequences to ensure they all operate correctly and meet safety standards. Only once the BESS passes all performance and safety tests do we advise our clients to proceed to commercial operation. After commissioning, C-RATE can provide ongoing lifecycle support to maximize system uptime and value. We offer remote monitoring and data analytics services to track the BESS performance over time, and we establish predictive maintenance schedules to preemptively address any degradation or faults. Our experts can conduct augmentation studies (evaluating when and how to add or replace battery modules to extend life or expand capacity). Finally, as the project nears end-of-life, we assist with decommissioning planning formulating strategies for safe removal of equipment and battery recycling or disposal plans in line with environmental regulations. By providing cradle-to-grave support, C-RATE ensures that clients have a reliable engineering partner for the entire lifespan of their energy storage investment.
